April favorites

Well, look at that. I started March like a lion and the promptly petered out like a lamb the second April hit.

We did have a good month in April, and lo and behold, here is the photographic proof.

 [we read books]

[we went to a Cardinals game—Charlie's first]

[the kids took egg hunting very seriously]

[Charlie made some repairs around the house]

[Mary Clare suited up for her first official softball game]

[we read our dolls some books]

[we read some books at the library for good measure]

May will be all about yard improvement, starting this weekend. I knew it needed work, but now that everything is blooming out and all the honeysuckles I slayed are coming back with a vengeance, it's really quite evident just how much needs to be done.

So, I hope you enjoyed those pictures, because between the yard and the end of the school year festivities, it may very well be June before you hear from me again. I have had an SD card full of Easter pics sitting on the desk for a full two weeks now, so, yeah, it's not looking good. But I will get there eventually, and I will post date them, just because I'm sneaky like that.

Outplayed, but not outnamed

Brennan just started a round of spring soccer, and at the first practice he was quite pleased to see he was one of the most experienced players on the team. As my sister said, what a difference a year makes in terms of confidence in skill.

Their first game was this past Saturday, and despite his renewed confidence and stellar skills, his team quickly found that they were out of their league. In no time, the score was 0-3.

Prior to the game, Brennan and his teammates had been trying to come up with a team name. As they stood on the sidelines, lamenting the other team's lead, Brian overheard Brennan tell some of his teammates, "Our team name should be the butt cheeks, because we are getting our butts kicked."
